Thanks to all of our supporters, Legal Services for Seniors raised more than $20,000.00 in Velma's memory at our Ciao Cioppino! Annual Fundraiser. The funds raised will go towards continuing the outstanding and meaningful legal work which Velma gave to our community.

To our Friends and Clients of Legal Services for Seniors:

We are very saddened to report that on Wednesday February 6th, 2008, Velma Hollingsworth, a founder and long time legal advocate with Legal Services for Seniors passed away from complications of various medical conditions from which she has suffered for the past several months.

Velma was a strong and successful advocate for our Monterey County seniors; her skills and wisdom will be missed by us all, most of all by her fellow advocates and the clients for whom she worked for so many years.

We have already begun thinking of what we may do as the most fitting memorial for Velma and most certainly will honor her life of dedication to our community at our "Ciao Cioppino!" event set for April 19th, 2008.

We offer Velma's family our condolences, and know you do, too.

Senior Citizens can be the most vulnerable segment of our population, often falling victim to unscrupulous business dealings, governmental mistakes as well as serious physical and financial abuse. Legal Services for Seniors, a non-profit 501(c)(3) law firm, helps Monterey County senior citizens with many legal matters. Our services range from simple "advice and counsel" to filing of complex litigation cases. Our staff possess expertise in legal areas of the greatest concern to senior citizens. We are proud to be an accessible legal resource for the community and an integral part of the safety net protecting the lives of seniors citizens throughout Monterey County.
